KuraRyou Exchange: Dear Author Letter
Hello, mystery creator!
First of all, let me thank you for creating something for me in this exchange! I love daiya a whole lot, and among my friends who are into the series kuraryou is that one ship that seems to unite us all. No matter what else everyone might ship, we all can agree that kuraryou is pretty great.
That said, most of the exchanges I do are writing-only, so I wanted to use this space first and foremost to talk about things I like in art versus things I like in writing.
With fanart, I love good body language and expressive faces; vibrant color choices and cohesive color palettes; dynamic motion and interesting compositions. I love things that are really loud and eye-catching, if not blinding, as well as ones that are really soft-edged and subtle. You know color palette challenges? I love stuff like that with limited palettes.
Content-wise, I love fanart that captures a moment between characters. I love focus on little details and I love stuff that clearly has backstory behind it, that can tell a whole story with a single image. I love cuddling and kisses and characters sleeping together, or just, lots of subtle touching between characters in general. I also love comics, if that's your thing! Sequential art is really neat.
With fanfic, I love character-focused stories, strong narrative voices, thoughtful pacing, experimental plot structures (if you think you can pull it off), innovative language and vivid descriptions, and anything that plays with reader expectations only to subvert them in interesting ways.
Content-wise, I usually link this post about things I like and dislike seeing in fanfiction. If you're writing for me, you might still want to read it, though not everything really applies to what I like about kuraryou in particular.
With kuraryou, I really like the trust between them and the loyalty Kuramochi has to Ryousuke. I like that baseball is this thing that brought them together and which they bonded through, but that it isn't the entirety of their relationship. I love that Kuramochi as a person is very heart-on-his-sleeve, someone who's playful and extroverted and kind of a joker, but who also really intuitively gets other people, and is able to see through whatever fronts or bullshit they might put up to the things they're really feeling, to what motivates them and what they care about.
With Ryousuke, I love that he's pretty much the complete opposite of that. He's aloof and controlled, incredibly self-assured and aware of who he is and how he wants other people to see him. He has this very precise social fluency, but I also feel that he only lets people get as close as he wants them to be — when it comes down to it, he has a few select friends he lets close and trusts in particular ways.
I love that Ryousuke does have a nastier, sadistic side, but I feel that in some ways he wields this as a blade, taking on a role of the righteous judge. His malice is brought out for deserving parties, people who have challenged him either on the field or in a personal arena. He's clever, protective, incisive, willing and able to defend the things that are his with what abilities he's honed.
If it's not really obvious which of these two is my fave at this point, well, I doubt I could make it any more hilariously clear. I love Ryousuke so, so much, he's a fascinating character with a lot of layers and I love seeing that teased apart, seeing the different facades he puts on as necessary and digging into the hard-to-place stuff he buries underneath.
I love that in different ways Kuramochi and Ryousuke are both good at reading people, and both have this very solid, assured read on each other. They're each someone the other can rely on for all manner of help and support and they push each other and motivate each other to try harder and smarter. Kuraryou is a really good ship I hope you enjoy this crying meta love letter!!

Boy oh boy do I love AUs, if you're a writer and are even remotely interested in doing one of those that's my first pick and I'll love you forever. I refer you to this post where I talk in-depth about what I like to see in AUs, if you want every idea under the sun. For some more specific ideas...
-Any AU where Ryousuke is in a position of influence and Kuramochi is his bodyguard. Mafia bocchan Ryousuke and mafia enforcer Kuramochi? Noble diplomat Ryousuke and knight Kuramochi accompanying him to a foreign land to watch his back? Underground fighter Kuramochi with Ryousuke as his slick financial backer? There are a lot of really good possibilities!
-Let's be real honest I'm just pushing for any AU where Kuramochi gets to hit stuff, delinquent Kuramochi is a good time and I like when he gets to be scary.
-Something canon-compliant in a future where they're both grown up with real adult jobs and no longer playing baseball. I like moving-in-together and sleeping together and cooking together and basically just figuring out how to do gross domestic stuff with each other. How do they fit into each other's lives?
-Porn-with-feelings. I love powerbottom Ryousuke, Ryousuke losing his usually airtight composure during sex, KURAMOCHI DIRTY TALKING, bonus points for it being genuinely Fucking Awful and Ryousuke being into it anyway, in spite of himself. I love all sorts of weird fetish shit like let's be honest if it's physically possible in the real world and doesn't involve shit or feet I'm probably down. I love the idea of Ryousuke proposing Some Niche Fetish Thing and Kuramochi being kind of unnerved by the idea but also, His Dick Is So Hard. It's hard maybe BECAUSE it's weird and because the face Ryo-san is making is, kind of a little terrifying. Fear kink in general is nice, overstimulation is nice, marathon sex is nice. I love thoughtful porn with good characterization.
-AND LASTLY, THE MOST IMPORTANT PROMPT: My very serious no-jokes-here headcanon about Ryousuke is that he is an eldritch horror full of bees. Nowhere in canon is the possibility that Rysouke is full of bees contradicted, at all, ever. I want fic where this is the case. I want Kuramochi figuring this out about Ryousuke and being a little unnerved, a little uncomfortable, but also he isn't even the slightest bit less interested in Ryousuke knowing this. In fact, the invigorating experience of his own low-grade fear is kind of a plus.
I will also take "Ryousuke is full of bees and Kuramochi is super into it" in pretty much any AU setting you can devise for it, I love worldbuilding.
Further bonus points for weird bee-involved sex. Consider: there is a distinct vibration around his dick when Kuramochi is fucking Ryo-san. Also consider: there is a definite humming when Kuramochi sleeps with Ryousuke at night. He gets so used to it that now he has trouble sleeping when Ryousuke isn't there. It's too quiet.
I just straight up love body horror, if that's something you're down for give me whatever you got, I love it.
And a last request: I find that kuraryou often gets paired with furuharu (and frequently miyusawa) as "the most logical side ship." I love Ryousuke's relationship with Haruichi and am happy if you want to include that in what you make, but I'd prefer if you avoid including additional ships in a gift for me. (or if you really, really want to, furumiyu is my OTP, and I do really love Miyuki and Kuramochi's friendship.)
