Shipping Meta: Iruma Jyuto
I love Iruma Jyuto and in this essay I will... detail the circumstances under which he can be shipped with any and every other member of the Hypnosis Mic cast.
Or: I wanted to write a proper character essay about Jyuto, seeing as he is my favorite character in Hypnosis mic and seeing as I have a vast number of opinions about how I feel he "works" in terms of motivations and personality, but couldn't. The nature of hypmic as a canon makes it very difficult to cite all the superfluous bits and pieces of canon, many of them trivia that only exists floating around on twitter in translations of interviews, that I have based my interpretation on. So instead what I ended up writing is this: a messy essay on how Iruma Jyuto can be shipped with literally every other member of the cast.
And in reality I only wrote this for an RP ad whose goal was "I want to RP Jyuto and will RP Jyuto against literally whoever you want to write, I can make any ship work and have fun with it, hit me up, let's do this." So it's not really an "essay" so much as an exhaustive list of premises someone could RP but I figured I might as well preserve it and share it with friends. After all, it does also have some utility as a huge list of potential writing prompts! If you have read this and would like to RP any of these scenarios, or present to me a new and interesting Jyuto/anyone shipping scenario... Poke me in the comments I'm always hungry for more.
A last additional disclaimer: I didn't do a section for Ichijiku because if I'm going to do Ichijiku/Jyuto I just want to do the whole thing myself, I know where I live with femdom.
Shipping scenarios!
I have chosen to break these down by character just to make it easier to find what you want based on which characters you might like to RP. If you have an idea of your own, I'd love to hear it! My ideas are simply representative of the sorts of scenarios I find interesting; anything with a similar tone is likely to be of interest to me as well. These ideas are primarily canon-based but I also love AUs; anything fantasy, sci-fi, supernatural, or crime-related is my jam.
Jyuto/Samatoki: My first and most beloved Jyuto ship! I will RP anything with them. First meeting and/or exploring how Jyuto became involved with the yakuza in the first place, Jyuto tapping Samatoki as a resource to solve a case, something in TDD era to showcase Samatoki's first rap career through a jyusama lens, Jyuto and Samatoki getting together only after Samatoki and Ichirou break up and dealing with whatever fallout exists from that. I like samaichi and am very interested in jyusama that talks about where Ichirou fits into Samatoki's life, for all the different ways that can work out. I also like Jyuto/Samatoki/Ichirou and Jyuto/Samatoki/Riou as polyamorous ships and would be open to RPing a polyam ship, either with one of us doubling or just RPing around / NPCing the third person in the relationship.
Jyuto/Riou: My second and other very beloved Jyuto ship! Jyuto is a natural caretaker and Riou just really, really wants to cook for people so I would love anything domestic with them. Riou cooking dinner with normal, grocery store ingredients at Jyuto's apartment, Jyuto visiting Riou out in the woods and having a difficult time roughing it, anything focusing on Riou's respect for rank and where he commits to working beneath Jyuto and taking orders from Jyuto, Riou helping Jyuto with police business -- or dirty cop business. Jyuto/Samatoki/Riou polyamory.
Jyuto/Jirou: This is yet another ship I really love, are you sensing a pattern yet. Something post-MTC vs Matenrou where they talk about how BB lost to MTC but ultimately MTC became losers themselves, any sort of random encounter where Jirou winds up in Yokohama or Jyuto winds up in Ikebukuro, Jyuto and Jirou go to an arcade and Jirou finds out that Jyuto is offensively good at shooting games, Jyuto brings Jirou in for questioning as a witness for a case and things go from there, Jyuto winds up investigating whatever happened with the Yamada parents and ends up seeing a lot of Jirou that way, any situation where Jyuto somehow winds up in a mentoring role with Jirou and ends up helping him better himself.
Jyuto/Ichirou: I love this best for the possibilities surrounding TDD and any situation where Samatoki and Ichirou had a relationship. The version of canon where Jyuto was around Samatoki during TDD era and met Ichirou earlier and he was the one to get involved with Ichirou, the version of events where Ichirou and Samatoki dated and broke up messily and Jyuto was ICHIROU'S rebound relationship, the version where Jyuto was Samatoki's rebound relationship but ends up dating Ichirou after that. I'm very stuck on "Jyuto/Ichirou but Samatoki is there too" but am definitely open to ideas that don't myopically hinge on Samatoki!
Jyuto/Saburou: Saburou is such a little shit who definitely thinks he's smarter and more capable than he is (though he is quite clever and competent) and I'd really like to see that thrown up against Jyuto. Similar premises to what works with Jirou work here too, they would just play out differently: something starting after MTC's loss to Matenrou, something where Jyuto is investigating events with the Yamada parents, something where Jyuto ends up mentoring Saburou. I really like the thought of Jyuto seeing something of himself in Saburou and wanting to encourage him to cultivate the best parts of himself and make something amazing of himself.
Jyuto/Doppo: Not gonna lie, this is one of the big Kinky Sex Jyuto ships. Something where they meet through the kink community, or an online forum or mailing list for XYZ weird fetish thing, something exploring that detail about how Jyuto took Doppo in for questioning years ago, Jyuto using his police credentials (and/or blackmail abilities) to take Doppo to a firing range to see if shooting shit helps him work out some of his frustrations in the same way rap does, something where they had started up a relationship before MTC's loss to Matenrou and exploring how the loss affects that, or something beginning after the loss to Matenrou, anything where Jyuto takes care of Doppo and helps him meet needs he was neglecting, of any kind.
Jyuto/Jakurai: I just have this desire to see Jyuto and Jakurai do old man things together. It's my headcanon that Jyuto is really good at mahjong because a lot of the old men in the police force and the yakuza play and so he got good in order to network for his profession. I want Jyuto and Jakurai to be mahjong buddies; no knowledge of mahjong or RPing mahjong required it's just the idea of a relationship that starts from there. Jyuto going fishing with Jakurai, something with the idea that Jakurai was a military doctor first where Jyuto and the police have a connection to that, something where Jyuto and Jakurai meet a second time through the kink community because I like the thought of Jakurai having some weird fetish.
Jyuto/Hifumi: This one I admittedly like best as Jyuto/Doppo/Hifumi polyamory, but I'd like to explore the possibility of them together all on their own. I feel Jyuto has a mask he uses on the job just like Hifumi has his host persona and would love to do something that explores each of them putting on and taking off their masks around each other. Jyuto as a rebound for Hifumi because he broke up with Doppo or finally decided he liked Doppo romantically and Doppo didn't reciprocate, or similar. Jyuto as a patron at Hifumi's host club even though usually their clientele is women (Jyuto prefers men, anyway, so he doesn't see the problem).
Jyuto/Gentaro: They're both very very clever and good at telling lies and that's the angle I'd come at them from, as a ship. Gentaro's sick friend dies but it's under suspicious circumstances and Jyuto ends up investigating and questioning Gentaro, Jyuto turns out to be a fan of Gentaro's novels and comes to a book signing and things move from there, Jyuto and Gentaro have a one-night stand and that plays out however it does, Gentaro turns out to be involved with the yakuza in some capacity and forms a new relationship with Jyuto through that connection.
Jyuto/Dice: My one single thought about why and how Jyuto and Dice would happen is "Jyuto invites Dice to play mahjong with him because it IS gambling, and Dice isn't very interested because it's boring old man gambling but he won't say no to a gamble, and Jyuto just fleeces the pants off of him." Optional bonus points for the tropey fanfic conclusion of "and they bet with sex so then they have sex." I'd also be interested in something where Riou keeps feeding Dice and has basically accidentally adopted Dice and Jyuto and Dice wind up having some form of relationship through Riou as a common vector.
Jyuto/Ramuda: My primary opinion on Jyuto and Ramuda is "they have sex one time and it is absolutely AWFUL for Jyuto, would not recommend would not repeat would ideally prefer to forget altogether (bonus points: Ramuda, on the other hand, had an AMAZING time, he doesn't know why Jyuto didn't call him later!)." I feel they'd get on like oil and water and it would just be a horrible mess but I love horrible messes so I am open to ideas on how that could be exploited. I also will say: in the alternate universe where Ramuda is a woman, Ramuda stepping on Jyuto and fucking him around is absolutely my brand, I'd be SUPER down for girl!Ramuda/Jyuto.
And that's it, that is my massive TL;DR of jumping-off points for shipping Jyuto with everyone. It does not even begin to touch on AUs, for which I have many more ideas, because that would make this even more prohibitively long. Thanks for reading, I love........ Jyuto.
