Boston Trip Update: Round Three
I have returned to twitter, so the hiatus updates have ended as of the first weekend in July. But I've also spent most of the past week in Boston, which means it is time for the fun and exciting Boston Update.
(Which was begun on Thursday 7/5 but I'm not getting the chance to finish until today, 7/10, which is... probably fine.)
And this may actually be fun and some definitions of exciting, because I did get to do fun things! And not just write die constantly, as I've been doing for the past month!
So! Tuesday before leaving I did manage to bike after work, and went all the way to the waterfront even though I don't usually do that route on weekdays, because I knew it was the last time I'd bike for more than a week. I wrote after dinner and was Very Satisfied.
Wednesday I spent the entire evening cleaning and packing for my trip, and didn't have time to write.
Thursday I just full on wrote during every bit of downtime at work and I believe finished one scene and wrote part of another. I then wrote even more at the airport in the copious spare time afforded to me by my flight being two hours delayed. :')
I was there early enough that both the 5:20 flight (which had been delayed three hours) and the 8:00 flight were about to board and played wait list chicken, but didn't get onto either of those flights. Even so I am just... Disproportionately proud of myself for TRYING as hard as possible to get the FUCK out of BWI on time.
I got to Yrin at about 2:30 Friday morning. I didn't get to sleep until about three. I then woke up just over three hours later, and went with Yrin to Harvard, and trapped myself there to write all day. In the morning I wrote in a cafe, then I met Yrin for lunch, then I just stayed in the science center until Yrin got off work at 4:30, THE WRITING HELL GAUNTLET WAS REALLY REAL WHILE I WAS VISITING.
I can't wait to be done with this story so I stop feeling compelled to give a blow-by-blow recounting of when I write, I am slowly losing my mind. No one else wants to know my writing schedule in this degree of explicit detail. But I cannot stop.
I did also write some on Saturday, some on Sunday, and some on Monday in the morning before meeting my friend, but not on Tuesday or on Wednesday, though I'd meant to write Wednesday at the airport. I find this kind of funny because when I'm home and working Tuesday and Wednesday are the days when I'm most consistent about writing, and I neeeever manage to write on Saturday, Sunday, or Monday. So I guess vacation isn't that much better I just flip my usual bullshit!!
Saturday, Yrin and I went on a fun excursion into Boston so I could buy weird pressed juice (apple lemon ginger cayenne!! it was very tasty, and very A Fuji Thing), we could get gelato (and bubble tea for Yrin next door) at a new gelato place that had opened, and visit the sex shop downstairs, because according to Yrin, a building with gelato, bubble tea, and sex supplies is A Building For Me. (He is absolutely correct and it was a nice time.)
We also watched Sanrio Boys on Saturday night, and off and on the rest of the trip, which is soft and nice and only a little bit trying to hurt the audience, and also laughably relevant content for both of us. The character who is both the archery team captain and student council president is like, precisely what you would design if you wanted to write a character who is simultaneously a callout of me and of Yrin. And Yrin kept laughing at me for the first year third year ship where baby kouhai is prickly to everyone except the president, it's so... For me.
Sunday we saw June again, which was much better than our Friday seeing-June plan, where I did not think through my dinner decisions because I just REALLY WANTED SALMON SASHIMI and June told me the sushi at the restaurant was decent! It was most definitely NOT DECENT that day. The restaurant only food poisoned me a little bit. I never actually vomited but it was a near thing for several hours and I sure did not pay for THAT dinner.
It was suuuuuper hot Sunday so after blackmailing June into reading doujinshi she enjoyed with the promise of air conditioning, we went to hang out in Starbucks for several hours where it was cool. Afterward June did tarot readings for me and for Yrin back at Yrin's house, which was A Good Time even if (or maybe because) June's deck definitely yelled at both of us. We... Probably both do need to be yelled at that bluntly, thanks tarot.
Monday I saw Em! I went to Harvard at ASS O'CLOCK IN THE MORNING because Yrin wanted to exercise and I don't love myself, and after a couple of hours of writing Em and I went for a nice long walk along the Charles. Afterward we hung out in Starbucks also because it is a great place to get water and be cool and use a not-disgusting public bathroom, before I went home with Yrin in the afternoon.
Tuesday I got to see Kathleen! I hadn't even known she'd be in Boston so this was a delightful last-minute surprise plan, we got breakfast in a cafe and just, talked for several hours, it was so good. Afterward I met up with Lemon and we went to the science museum! We both were idiots and forgot that lunch is a thing humans should eat, and I'd only slept three or four hours so I attributed my loopiness to that, but we were... Definitely both really spacy in the museum. We lowered our functioning to about the level of the children the museum primarily caters to, lmao.
We also went to one of those 4D movies, which was fun even though we are sooooo not the target audience because it was just... Really cute hearing all the kids laugh and scream when they're sprayed with water, or have air blown on them, or have their seats shake them. And the girl behind us REALLY LOVED SHARKS and gave A+ bonus narration. She was the real movie MVP.
Yrin tried to save us from our unintentional attempt to starve ourselves, so we met up with him when he got off work and he brought us to the poke bowl place with the promise of noodles but the restaurant... Didn't have chicken for Lemon, and she doesn't eat raw fish, so we. Maybe accidentally starved Lemon a bit more, I'M VERY SORRY LEMON. My salmon was delicious though, it was everything I wanted and absolutely made up for the bad sushi on Friday.
Wednesday was my last partial day and when I flew home, and I spent the vast proportion of it flopping on Yrin and lamenting having to go home. It was a very nice day, actually.
Since I'm writing the rest of this on Tuesday, despite having begun it last Thursday, I could in theory continue my update to include this past weekend. But this stupid entry is already needlessly long so I will... Not do that.
I had such a nice trip though, I wrote a lot and had a lot of good friend time and it was genuinely very nice, following Yrin to work repeatedly like a weird stray cat and then wandering off about Harvard. And I'll be back again in August! Then with more seeing Caeslin!!
The big bang is still absolutely kicking my ass, by the way. But I finally filled in the hole in my outline and I'm finally more than halfway done with the story so maybe BY THE FUCKING POSTING DEADLINE, NEVER MIND THE DRAFT DEADLINE, my draft will finally be done. I'm terrified but also excited.

And I am replying to this really late, lol. I only ever check DW comments when I make another DW entry, it's a problem. But yeah, you should totally finish Sanrio Boys! Maybe I even will when I next see Yrin.
And yeah actually! I read part of the manga a million years ago and at the time it didn't grab me, but I was also like... Maybe fifteen? And I think the aspects of it which are relevant to me now just weren't things I had gotten interested in yet when I tried it. Maybe in a million years when I'm not dying, I'll give it another go. (probably by then the anime will be finished, which will be nice)
