State of the Hiatus (Again): Week One
I have taken a hiatus from twitter for the entire duration of June, so I imagine keeping this updated will be even more important to me this month! I'm not sure how many people are actively following it on DW versus following the links I usually post on twitter, but... Hello. Keep me company while I hiatus die for tenipuri big bang.
I do not even want to talk about work last week, we are not going to THINK about work last week, it's fine it's fine it's fine.
I fell on my face about riding my bike Tuesday and then Wednesday was therapy so I didn't have time, which means I pushed myself to try and beat the thunderstorm on Thursday and did not... Quite succeed. I rode my bike as far as halfway around the lake and was able to dart into one of the gazebos right before the sky opened up. It was honestly really nice to sit in the gazebo and watch the rain, and I did my little yoga routine there, but after an hour I was hungry and unwilling to wait for the rain to let up more so I went ahead and rode home in the wet which was... Actually pretty fun! I saw enormous toads and took a hot shower and ate warm leftovers and it was not a bad day.
I also bought myself dinner in a Greek cafe in DC on Wednesday night, so I managed to work on my tenipuri big bang ONCE in the past week. I was really hoping to write over the weekend in between my other plans but just, didn't. I kept finding myself to be more tired than expected and let myself make excuses not to do it, which is. Fine. I'll be fine. I'm only screaming internally about the deadline a little bit.
But yeah, weekend plans!
On Friday I got allergy shots with mom, went for bubble tea, and took Nico for his yearly checkup at the vet. Then we drove up to Frederick so I could visit with Cassie while she's home from Boston for her sister's high school graduation. Our friends Becky and Maggie also came to her house and we caught up and cooked s'mores and just generally had a nice evening.
Then Maggie drove me home in the POURING RAIN which was TERRIFYING because it was coming down in blinding solid sheets and visibility on the road was almost completely nonexistent. Yay for terrifying weather hell adventures together!
Saturday Maggie came by my house after her morning work shift at about eleven and we hung out at her house until Becky and Cassie could come over around 3:30. We watched another episode of Instinct even though the show is Terrible because Alan Cumming is in it, and lounged on her deck and pet her cats and just generally had a nice time.
Once Cassie and Becky arrived we did a round of anime speed dating, or: the thing where everyone in the group nominates a few series no more than one person has seen before and you watch just the first episode of each. We watched Wotakoi, Aoharu x Machinegun, High School Life of a Fudanshi (three episodes, since they're ~3 minutes each), Megalobox, Yotsuiro Biyori, Magical Girl Ore, Persona 5, and Sanrio Boys.
My personal verdict is that I definitely want to watch the rest of Wotakoi, Megalobox looks REALLY INTERESTING and the animation style is so good, but I'd prefer to watch it with someone, Yotsuiro Biyori is too slow and soft for me unless I'm just, mind-numbingly sad some day and need something that's as gentle as possible to occupy me, Magical Girl Ore I will probably binge-watch once it's done while very intoxicated because it just feels like That Kinda Show, and Yrin and I should watch Sanrio Boys together because it's sort of hilariously Yrin's brand and also I'm mad about how much I like it. So all in all, a productive anime speed dating experience, some of these shows do indeed have my number!
Cassie drove me home after Saturday hangouts and I was supposed to work on tnprbb in the evening but ended up just... Lying in bed and whining to Yrin off and on for multiple straight hours, oops. I told this to Samy who also ended up resting instead of writing on Saturday and she told me that it still counts as big bang productivity because Yrin is my collab partner and I was talking to my partner!! Yrin does not agree with this but I am touched Samy supports me, lmao.
Sunday was... Such a lazy day, I slept in and played mobage a lot and went driving with mom, which was, surprisingly not nerve wracking. She was calmer than the last time we went out together but it's becoming evident to me QUITE how much of a cautious driver she is. Like, it was raining, so all the times she told me to slow down taking turns made sense BECAUSE IT WAS RAINING, but if it wasn't raining I would take those turns at a higher speed than mom would. We went home, cooked and ate dinner, and then I drove mom to dad's house. I'm still... Genuinely really enjoying driving, but I know part of that is that we primarily drive on one-lane back roads (even if some of them have speed limits as high as 50MPH), so I very rarely have to think about changing lanes or what the cars around me are doing. I still. Need a lot of practice with that.
I kind of wanted to write when I got home Sunday night but I sure did just watch the last episode of Darling in the Franxx which I hadn't seen and then binge watched about three hours of Brooklyn 99 instead. I am doing... Super great at this "working on the big bang on my hiatus" thing.
I didn't write on Monday, either, but I did read a sort of horrifying amount of other people's fanfiction, which was at turns very inspiring and also kind of paralyzing.
Today has been pretty productive, though. I left early enough to get dunkin donuts for breakfast because goodness knows I did not grocery shop for the week yet, they gave me a free iced coffee because the caps won, work was productive, I used my lunch to eat, play both my mobage, AND finish my current scene of the big bang fic... I'm feeling pretty good.
I am definitely a little manic and can tell that these past few days were like, upswing! downswing! upswing again!! But if I can ride this one a little bit longer and get work done on the big bang, I'll take it.
I'm hoping to go grocery shopping this evening, ride my bike, eat pre-made food from the grocery store deli because fuck if I want to invest time in cooking, and then hopefully write a bit more!! Wish me luck sustaining my motivation. Maybe this week will be a good week. I'm certainly going to try to make it one.
This weekend I'm going to the beach with a friend which was... Definitely a super awesome idea to plan during my big bang work period, lmao. We're leaving Saturday evening, spending all day Sunday and most of Monday, then coming home Monday evening. But as it turns out, it may rain at least part of Sunday, so... I'll bring my laptop and she'll bring hers and we'll probably spend some of the weekend with her doing college homework and me writing for the big bang. It might even be productive! If we hold each other to doing our work that's better than I might do at home.
And this has been the state of my hiatus, week one. Thanks for following along at home~

Also, I didn't have time to fit in a comment on your old post before you made this new one, but I just wanted to say that I'm also excited about meeting up in August in Boston! And also, congratulations on dating, that's awesome and I'm very happy for both of you.
Anything worth noting in the horrifying amount of other people's fanfiction?
And good luck on the big bang! Writing is hard and motivation is hard but I believe in your ability to beat the deadline. (But also, I feel you on having trouble sitting down and actually writing. Ask me how many words I've made this past month and a half. >>)
